Scholar Bowl Off to a Great Start!

by: Mauricia Powers and Belicia Smith

Scholar Bowl kicked off the 2018-2019 season on February 21st. The varsity team won all three games. It was an impressive night for Richmond and hopefully they will continue to grab wins throughout the season.

Joshua Isaacson, senior, has been in scholar bowl all four years of his high school career. Isaacson is on the varsity team. He enjoys hanging out with friends and having fun with the team. He specializes in math mostly, when asked about the competitions, he said “it’s hard, but some of the questions are pretty easy, and then there are a lot of questions that are like ‘where in the world did they come even come up with some of this stuff.’” His favorite moment in scholar bowl was going to a certain meet and playing cards up in the balcony before it started.

Joe Martin, freshman, recently competed in the scholar bowl competition and was also the top scorer in JV for RHS. Martin originally joined scholar bowl because his older brother enjoyed it, so it influenced him to try it and now he says he will compete for the rest of his high school career.

The JV team, in which many of the players had never competed, won two out of the three matches. There are four regular meets this year as well as districts.
